Bloody unfair - down with the tampon tax!
The period is not a luxury!
In Switzerland, the reduced VAT rate of 2.5% applies to goods for daily use. The "daily requirements" include bread, water, caviar, bouquets or Viagra. This is bloody unfair - therefore: down with the tampon tax! The higher taxation of women's hygiene articles is discrimination against women in Switzerland!
Update: We handed over the petition on June 14, 2019. You can still sign the petition - that way you get updates on the topic and we can contact you if the Council of States needs a little push in the right direction.
According to the will of the legislator, tampons, sanitary towels and panty liners are not part of daily needs and are normally taxed.
Swiss women thus pay extra taxes for products they cannot possibly do without!
That's Bloody Unfair - that's why: get the tampon tax down! The higher taxation of women's hygiene articles is discrimination against women in Switzerland!
On 12 December 2018, National Councillor Jacques-André Maire submitted the motion "Reduced VAT rate for feminine hygiene articles" to ensure more justice. A similar attempt was rejected by parliament in 2018. We stand behind National Councillor Maire and will do everything we can to ensure that the motion comes through this time and that the reduced VAT rate is also applied to women's hygiene articles.
